Description

Nant Cottage is a one-and-a-half storey, two-window cottage with extensions at the rear, forming an L-shape. It is built from rough-dressed slate-stone blocks and has a graded iron-rich slate roof with deep verges and eaves. The eaves feature characteristic shaped corbelling at the corners, while the verges are constructed from large slate slabs. There is a round, projecting end chimney on the west gable, which has two stages and a cylindrical stack with a plain cornice and louvre.

The entrance is near the center and features a slightly-recessed boarded and studded door, flanked by mullioned windows—three lights to the left and two to the right. The wooden mullions hold 20th-century leaded glazing. There are two later gabled rubble dormers on the roof, each with two-light leaded windows and plain modern bargeboards. To the left of the stack projection on the west gable, there is a two-light window, and on the east gable, there are single-light windows on both the ground and upper floors, with the upper window featuring a triangular-arched head.

At the northwest, there is a gabled rear wing that is set back slightly and has a plain end chimney with louvre. This appears to be a later 19th-century addition to the original two-window rectangular block of the cottage. The west face of this wing has a gabled dormer similar to those on the main roof, along with a ground-floor window to the left. There is also a further plain chimney at the northwest corner. Stepped down and adjoining to the north is another single-storey gabled extension, which has a two-light window on its west face. Additionally, there is a single-storey lean-to projection to the left at the rear.

The interior was not inspected during the survey in February 1996.
