Description
Y Rheithordy is a two-storey building with an attic and cellar, constructed from local stone rubble and topped with slate roofs. It has a 'T'-plan layout, with the main front elevation facing north. The symmetrical façade features three bays and a central gabled porch from the 20th century. On either side of the porch, there are four-paned windows in the main reception rooms. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, and the attic features two gabled dormers with two lights each. Recessed gable chimney stacks are located at both ends of the building. The rear wing has a hipped roof and an axial stack. On the west side, there is a slated lean-to that extends the service arrangements and includes a 20th-century glazed porch. The south end of the T-wing has 12-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors.
Although not accessible during the inspection, it is reported to contain evidence of an earlier house, including a large inglenook fireplace in the dining room, which is enclosed by later work. Transverse beams from the early 17th century are said to survive, along with some roof work from that period. Additionally, there is a plain oak stair dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century.
