Description

The gatehouse at Glyn Cywarch is a 17th-century structure that stands three storeys tall with attics in the central section, flanked by lower wings for stables and a cartshed. It is constructed from mortared rubble masonry, featuring large stones as quoins and lintels, along with sandstone dressings. The roof is slate and cruciform in shape, adorned with stone copings and tall square stacks with dripstones and cappings on the left and right gables. The wings have corbelled eaves.

The main elevation faces southeast towards the yard, while the rear looks northwest towards the house. The entrance is located to the left and features a riven stone voussoir-arched head with a plain hoodmould, accompanied by a two-light mullioned window to the right. The upper storeys are fitted with three-light mullioned windows, each with hoodmoulds, decreasing in height as they ascend.

To the left, the stable wing has a central doorway with a four-centred arched head, flanked by three-light mullioned windows. A higher two-light window is positioned to the far right. Above the entrance, there is a four-light mullioned window set in a gabled dormer that interrupts the eaves line, featuring a plain label and advanced copings that create a pediment topped with a raised ball finial. This pediment houses a datestone inscribed with the initials and date: J.R.O.G. M.P. / 1871.

The cartshed wing consists of two wide bays with a similar gabled dormer above, which contains a three-light mullioned window and a datestone marked with the date: 1877. The building underwent modernization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
