Description
The Church of St Michael is a Neo-Norman parish church featuring a nave, chancel, a west bellcote that replaces the original spirelet, a south porch, and a north vestry. It is constructed from grey limestone and has round-arched windows, a linking string course, shallow buttresses, and a low plinth. The nave consists of five bays, with the western bay being blind. The west end has three windows and a tall gable window above, while the east window features three lights under a large arched hood. A gablet crosses to the east gable of the nave and chancel, and the church has a slate roof. The south porch was added during restoration work in 1913.
Inside, the church has a broad interior with a roof supported by slender trusses that spring from corbels and feature open framing. The short chancel has a flat roll-moulded horseshoe chancel arch resting on thick round columns. There is a deep timber gallery at the west end, set on stone columns. The pulpit is square and made of timber, and the font is crafted from silver granite. The east window contains late 19th-century stained glass, the south window was created by C.C. Powell around 1944, and the north window was made by Jones & Willis around 1914.
