Description

Berth-Lwyd is a large, multi-storey stone farmhouse with a later wing added at the north end and lean-to sheds on the south side. The main block is a three-unit structure with two-bay additions to the right. It is constructed of long slate rubble, roughly coursed, and features a modern slate roof along with slab-coped, kneelered gable parapets. The original eaves line has crude stone corbelling, which was raised during modern restoration. The farmhouse has squat end chimneys and a central stack, all with weathercoursing.

The original openings mostly contain small, square windows, all fitted with modern casements. On the east side, which serves as the entrance, there is a canted, gabled projection that houses a primary stone newel stair, with a partly overhanging upper section on the left return. The entrance is located to the left of this projection and features slate steps leading up to a deeply-recessed modern boarded door. There is a similar entry at the rear. To the left of the front entrance, there is an irregular stone projection, likely a primitive mounting block.

The adjoining wing to the north aligns with the stair projection for half of its length before stepping back to the right. The rear of this wing is built into the slope and has a rubble revetment wall that separates a modern terrace from the back of the main house. This area includes a modern three-bay glazed wall with rubble dividing piers. Inside, there are modern ceiling and roof timbers, and the wide stone newel stair within the stair projection features a modern tunnel access created through the primary end wall, leading to the addition.
