Description
Gwelfryn is a three-storey house with a cellar, featuring three windows on the front. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and has a moderately pitched slate roof with deep verges and exposed purlins. The building includes stone stacks and slate water tabling.
The second-floor windows have shallow upper sashes with 12 panes and are positioned under the eaves. The first floor has modern bowed oriel windows on the outer sides, while the centre features a 16-pane sash window with a stone lintel. The ground floor has similar windows flanking a central doorway, which is topped by a shallow rectangular fanlight with narrow horizontal glazing and staggered uprights. The entrance consists of a six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, and is sheltered by a Victorian gabled hood supported by brackets. There are brick steps leading to the street, with slate treads. To the right, there is a cellar opening with a massive stone lintel and an original ironwork grating for the lightwell, matching the fanlight's pattern.
At the rear, there are cross windows set under the eaves, which have been re-glazed with one upper opening light. Other windows include small-paned sashes.
Inside, there is a contemporary four-flight well stair with a spiral newel and wave-moulded tread ends. The interior features moulded architraves, six-panel doors, a broad ribbed dado rail, and a large fireplace in the former kitchen at the left end, which has a timber bressumer.
