Description
Salem House is a three-storey building with one window, which had its top storey added later in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and shows significant signs of rebuilding. The roof is moderately pitched and covered with slate, featuring plain eaves and slated verges. There is a stone stack with water tabling, and a similar stack is located over a gabled rear wing.
On the second floor, there is a 16-pane sash window set under the eaves. The first floor has a smaller Victorian sash window that was originally a doorway, positioned offset to the right and featuring a deep stone lintel. Below this, on the ground floor, is a similar window that also indicates a former doorway. There is a later doorway to the left with a stone lintel and a four-flush panelled door. The right gable end has a 16-pane sash window, and there is a blocked doorway offset to the right on the first floor at the rear.
The building appears to have been converted from part of the former schoolroom or coach house that adjoins it.
