Description
Pen-y-Bryn Tollhouse is a toll house located at the western end of the town on the former turnpike road to Towyn. It is a one-and-a-half storey, L-shaped building with an advanced gable on the left side. The structure is made of coursed rubble masonry and features a moderately pitched slate roof with lead valleys and close verges. There is a stone stack on the left side with water tabling, as well as a later attached brick stack.
The building has a gablet over a first-floor window on the right, which is a modern casement. The advanced gable end also has a similar modern casement. On the ground floor to the right, there is a modern three-light, transomed casement with a stone lintel above it. Adjacent to this is a doorway with a deeper lintel, leading to a plank door and a slate doorstep.
In the right corner of the advanced gable, there is a toll window with eight panes on each face, complete with a stone lintel and sill. To the left of this window, there is another modern transomed two-light casement, also with a stone lintel.
Additionally, there is a stone post from the former tollgate with iron pintles set against the advanced gable wall between the windows.
