Description
Cae'r Llwyn Cottages is a row of six single-storey cottages built in a picturesque style. They are constructed from irregularly coursed rubblestone, featuring large quoins and reddish brown brick segmental heads with dripmoulds. The left cottage, No.1, has been pebbledashed, while the slate roofs are mostly intact, with only the right cottage, No.6, retaining the original graded slates. The roofs extend over low-eaved lean-to verandahs.
The cottages are symmetrically arranged with a pattern of one, two, two, two, two, two, and one bays. Each cottage has single-bay projecting gabled end sections and two-bay sections under the verandah, alternating with two-bay hip-roofed projections. Most of the wooden windows are original, featuring three lights with simple pointed Gothic tracery and hollow spandrels, except for No.1, which has plastic windows and an infilled verandah. The other cottages maintain their original open verandah form, although several posts have been replaced. The best-preserved verandah is on No.6, which retains its original rustic posts and braces.
There are rendered ridge stacks to the left and right of the gabled end sections, with the stack on No.1 being rebuilt. Paired ridge stacks between Nos.1 and 2, and Nos.3 and 4 have been demolished, but the stack between Nos.5 and 6 remains. Shared ridge stacks are located between Nos.2 and 3, and Nos.4 and 5 on the hipped projections. A flat-roofed dormer has been inserted into No.3. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
