Description
No. 3 Tai'r Ysgol, part of a group of three attached single-storey cottages known as School Cottages, features a central projection that includes an upper floor. Built in a picturesque Gothic style typical of the earlier estate buildings in the village, the cottages are constructed from uncoursed rubblestone with reddish brown brick used for the window heads, dripmoulds, and stacks. They have a slate roof with hipped ends and are arranged in a 2:3:2 bay configuration, with the center forming an equal-height gabled projection.
The original windows in the right bays of No. 3 are three-light timber mullioned and transomed designs, while the other windows have been replaced in the 20th century but still feature 19th-century cambered heads. The central boarded door to No. 2 has a two-light window above it. The entrances to Nos. 1 and 3 are located on the returns, accessed through cambered doorways in set-back screen walls that have porches behind them. There are short ridge stacks with moulded capping and chimney pots on either side of the central projection. Notably, No. 1 has a large box dormer at the rear. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
