Description
No. 2 Tai'r Ysgol, also known as School Cottages, is one of a group of three attached single-storey cottages, with an upper floor in the central projection of No. 2. Built in a picturesque Gothic style typical of the earlier estate buildings in the village, the cottages are constructed from uncoursed rubblestone, featuring reddish brown brick window heads, dripmoulds, and stacks. The slate roof has hipped ends. The facade consists of two bays on the left, three in the center, and two on the right, with the central section forming an equal-height gabled projection.
No. 3 retains original three-light timber mullioned and transomed windows in the right bays, while the other windows have been replaced in the 20th century but still have 19th-century cambered heads. The central boarded door to No. 2 has a two-light window above it. The entrances to Nos. 1 and 3 are located on the returns, accessed through cambered doorways in set-back screen walls with porches behind. There are short ridge stacks with moulded capping and chimney pots on either side of the central projection. Additionally, No. 1 features a large box dormer at the rear. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
