Description
Cae'r Llwyn Cottages is a row of six single-storey cottages built in a picturesque style. They feature irregularly coursed rubblestone with large quoins and reddish brown brick segmental heads and dripmoulds. The left cottage, No.1, has been pebbledashed, while the right cottage, No.6, retains its original graded slate roof, which extends over a low-eaved lean-to verandah. The cottages are symmetrically grouped with a pattern of 1:2:2:2:2:2:1 bays, consisting of single-bay projecting gabled end sections and 2-bay sections under the verandah, alternating with 2-bay hip-roofed projections.
The wooden windows are largely original, featuring three lights with simple pointed Gothic tracery and hollow spandrels, except for No.1, which has plastic windows and an infilled verandah. The verandah on the other cottages retains its original open form, although several posts have been renewed. The best-preserved verandah is on No.6, where the original rustic posts and braces remain. There are rendered ridge stacks to the left and right of the gabled end sections, with the stack on No.1 rebuilt. Paired ridge stacks were located between Nos.1 and 2 and Nos.3 and 4, but the latter has been demolished; the stack between Nos.5 and 6 remains. Shared ridge stacks are present between Nos.2 and 3 and Nos.4 and 5 on the hipped projections. A flat-roofed dormer has been inserted into No.3. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
