Description
Bryn Henllan is a free-style house that draws inspiration from Tudor Gothic and Vernacular architectural styles. The exterior features knapped stonework made from stones of different colors, highlighting the various storeys and creating a diaper-work pattern in the upper storey. It has a grey stone plinth and ashlar dressings, including angle quoins. The slate roof is equipped with end and axial stacks and the house is two storeys tall with attics.
The entrance is located on the east gable return, while the main elevation faces south over the garden. This southern elevation includes a two-storeyed canted bay window with a hipped roof on the left, featuring a French doorway on the inner face, a four-light mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, and a three-light mullioned window above. A verandah, supported by chamfered timber columns and curved struts, runs alongside this bay and across part of the facade, carrying a slate roof. Behind the verandah, there is a four-light mullioned and transomed window and a three-light mullioned window above, with the roofline slightly raised over it. A gabled dormer is present in the roof above, and to the right of the verandah is a three-light mullioned and transomed window. All transomed windows feature ogivally arched heads for the upper lights, with decorative leading in the upper panes.
The entrance front has an advanced porch gable that is offset to the right, with the slope of its roof mirroring the rear slope of the main roof. A strong moulded cornice above the entrance emphasizes the division into two storeys, with diaper-work in the upper storey. The moulded stone doorcase includes blind ogee panels in the lintel, with a date carved in the center. Above the doorway is a two-light mullioned window, and in the main gable of the house, there is a three-light mullioned window at the first floor, along with an attic window in the gable apex. Additionally, there is a small service yard enclosed by a wall at the northeast, situated at the angle of the main range of the house and its rear wing.
