Description
Plas Gwynfryn is a building constructed in dark grey snecked rock-faced stone with paler gritstone dressings. The main south front features a romantically asymmetrical design, highlighted by a crenellated tower that rises three storeys, gables, and a three-part bay window oriel at the first floor level, which includes a date stone in the gable. To the right, there is a small crenellated stair turret. On the left side, a large porte-cochere with pinnacles is present. The windows throughout the building are generally stone mullioned and transomed. At the far east end, there is a single-storey parapetted billiard room, along with an extensive service wing at the rear. Although the slated roofs were destroyed in a fire, the external shell of the building has survived, and it features cast iron down pipes.
Inside, access is gained from the porte-cochere through an external hall that leads to a large central stair hall, which was originally illuminated by a roof lantern. The dining room suite is located at the rear, while the parlour and other reception rooms are situated at the front. Unfortunately, the entire interior, including the floors, wall panelling, stair, and plasterwork, was destroyed in the fire.
