Domestic & Dining Hall Range at Normal College

The Domestic and Dining Hall Range at Normal College is a 3-bay building with a southeast front featuring a broad, projecting single-storey gabled Dining Hall at the centre, flanked by low two-storey porch towers that are set back on either side. Behind these are two-storey and attic ranges that extend from the full width transverse range, overlooking a lower courtyard. The exterior is finished in cement render with a rubble plinth and freestone dressings, topped with slate roofs. The Dining Hall has a pyramidal gable end with wide eaves and a louvred bellcote that features a finial and weathervane, along with cement render chimney stacks.

The Dining Hall is supported by stepped buttresses and has a tall splayed six-light bay window with three transoms. The flanking ranges have three-light windows, with square heads on the first floor and segmental heads below. There are raised pediments on the sides and modern extensions below. Hipped roof dormers are present on the extreme end ranges. The northwest front is stepped with seven windows and set into the slope. It features advanced gabled pavilions at both ends, with a taller gable at the centre that includes a similar six-light, three-transom oriel window for the Dining Hall. Mullioned and transomed windows are located on either side, with segmental-headed windows below that are flanked by pilasters. Arcaded and covered passages at either end connect to Neuadd Eryri and Fon.

Inside, the Dining Hall is T-shaped with a ribbed segmental roof, which is groin vaulted at the junction of the two arms. It features a dentil cornice and a panelled dado, and it formerly included accommodation for servants.
