Description

The lychgate, stable, and churchyard wall of the Church of Saint Baglan date from the early 18th century. The wall, which encloses a roughly rectangular churchyard, is constructed of drystone rubble. The main entry is located on the north side near the eastern end, featuring double wrought iron gates set between square stone pillars. The gates are designed with dog-bars and curved strengthening rails. To the west of the gates, there is a pedestrian gate attached to the southeast angle of an enclosed lychgate that faces northeast. This lychgate has a square plan and is made of rubble stone with a grouted slate roof. It has plain square-headed doorways at each end, both with timber lintels. The outer doorway features a rough plank door that does not reach full height. Above the lintel in the outer gable, there is a plaque inscribed with 'HL / IH / WARDENS / 1722', where HL is believed to stand for Hugh Lewis. Inside the lychgate, each side has a stone seat, one with an oak board and the other with a slate slab.

Adjoining the lychgate at an angle to the west is the former stable, a small rectangular building also made of rubble stone and topped with a low-pitched slate roof. The stable has a single doorway facing east, which includes a boarded door with a timber lintel.
