Description

Cefn-y-coed is a colourwashed stucco villa featuring a slate hipped low-pitched roof with flat boarded eaves and four rendered stacks, two located on the ridge and one at each end. The roof is adorned with red ridge tiles from the late 19th century or early 20th century. The villa is two storeys high with a formal front that has three windows. The centre of the front showcases a full-height curved bay, with 16-pane sash windows on the first floor, French windows on the ground floor sides, and a large original tripartite sash window in the centre, consisting of 6-18-6 panes. Both the tripartite sash and the sash above it are curved.

On the right end wall, there is an enclosed porch that is square and stuccoed, featuring a moulded entablature and frieze beneath a hipped roof. It has a half-glazed double door and a 4-pane sash window on the end wall. The left end has a 15-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left and a 12-pane sash window above. The rear of the villa includes a 12-pane sash window on the first floor to the left, while the rest of the rear wall is projected with a prominent centre 21-pane stair light.

Inside, the villa boasts six-panel doors, panelled shutters, moulded cornices, and a fine cantilevered open-well spiral staircase at the rear. The staircase features an open string with stick balusters and a moulded rail, along with a curved stair wall and an acanthus rose over the stairwell. Later 19th-century tiled floors are present in the porch and spine hall. The two rooms at the west end are joined and both display a painted floral frieze beneath the cornice.
