Description

Penrhyn Isaf is a sub-medieval, storeyed house built from local rubble with a slate roof. It features 19th-century yellow sandstone window surrounds, and although it originally had three-light mullioned windows, the mullions are now missing. To the right, there is a large, projecting gabled end chimney with corbelling at the top, along with small 19th-century stacks with moulded capping on both gable ends. The main front has three bays and includes a central, single-storey gabled porch. This porch has a window with modern 2-pane glazing at the front and a glazed modern door on the right side. Similar windows are present on both floors. The rear elevation includes a single-storey 19th-century wash/brewhouse addition on the left, creating an L-plan with the main block, and a large modern extruded addition on the right. Modern windows are found throughout, including an arched window at the center of the main block.

Inside, there are stopped-chamfered ceiling beams in the former hall and parlour, with the hall ceiling framed in three ways. The joists are covered with modern plasterboard but are still retained, and the main and subsidiary beams feature long broach stops. The hall has a wide inglenook fireplace with an arched bressummer, although the arching is a later addition. It is said that the original roof trusses still survive.
