Description
Capel Mawr is a building constructed from roughly squared random rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The gable facing the street features a pediment and is designed as two storeys high, with entrances on either side. The doorways are framed by slightly advanced architraves that have decorated entablatures above the round-arched entrances. Between the doorways, there are paired sash windows with margin lights and depressed segmental heads, along with a continuous sill band and impost band that extend from the doorways. A central pilaster buttress adds to the structure's stability.
On the upper storey, there are arcaded segmentally arched margin light sash windows arranged in a pattern of 1-2-2-1, which also feature continuous sill and impost bands, as well as keystones that connect to the moulded cornice defining the pediment. At the apex of the pediment, there is a geometric rose window, topped with a stone finial. The building has five-window return elevations, with round-arched windows on the upper storey and rectangular sash windows with margin lights below. Additionally, there is a school room extension to the north.
