Description

The Engine House, Boilerhouse, Bunker, and remains of the chimney to the south are notable structures built from sawn squared slate blocks and topped with a gable-ended slate roof. The building stands three storeys high over a basement and has a rectangular plan, oriented roughly from northwest to southeast. Each face features small-paned sash windows with slate lintels and cills. The entrance is located in the southeast end wall, which is under a brick arch and accessed by sawn slab steps. There is a large opening on the ground floor of the northwest end wall, also with a brick arch.

High up on the northeast wall, there are remains of a clock positioned between the top-floor windows. An iron beam from the engine is supported high on the northwest wall and extends through vertical timber boarding in the gable. A pair of doors flanking the beam opens onto the remains of wooden inspection balconies. At the northwest end, the shaft head is enclosed by a wall of sawn slate blocks approximately 2 meters high, which is attached to the engine house. This shaft head is spanned by two steel joists.

On the southwest wall of the engine house, the remains of the boiler house can be seen; it is now roofless but retains its principal timbers and contains the remnants of two boilers. To the south, there is a square base of the remote chimney, made of sawn slate blocks and standing about 3 meters high; the former iron extension has been removed. Access to the interior was not available at the time of the survey, but it is noted to retain its early 20th-century Cornish beam engine.
