Description
The walled court at Rhedynog Goch and Ty Pellaf is a collection of farm buildings dating from the 19th century, constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs. The layout is rectangular, featuring outbuildings arranged along the insides of high surrounding walls, which have stepped capping made of squared blocks. Each farm has its own separate outbuildings, with two main ranges extending along the entire southeast side and most of the longer northeast side.
There are two distinct pig kitchens: one for Rhedynog Goch located centrally along the long southwest wall, and the other for Ty Pellaf, positioned centrally on the northwest wall. The Ty Pellaf pig kitchen has a brick elliptical-arched entry to the yard on the right, along with two sets of pigsties—one in the northwest corner and another adjacent to the southwest pig kitchen.
The long ranges of outbuildings include a cart-shed, barn, cowhouse, and stable. In the southeast range, from right to left, there is a lofted cart-house featuring a vent loop and a brick elliptical-arched cart entry, followed by a barn with a stable door under a slab lintel and a vent loop to the left, then a stable with a similar door and window to the left, and finally, a similar door leading into the end cowhouse. The northeast range for Ty Pellaf, which is at right angles to the southeast range, is similar but not identical, comprising a door, window, door, loop, door to the barn, cart entry, and loop. All windows are of the Newborough estate type, with slatted lower sections and small panes, and there are loft windows in the gable ends above the cart-sheds.
The Ty Pellaf pigsty is partially demolished in the northwest corner. Each pig kitchen has a gabled roof and is relatively tall, with the left end featuring a short stack. The northwest kitchen has one window with glazing bars centrally located on the side wall and a ledged door in the right gable end, along with a small outbuilding at the other end, which is a lean-to on the outer wall with a small window and door. The southwest kitchen is similar but has the window and door on the side wall and an outbuilding to the right, also a lean-to against the outer wall. There is a pigsty to the left, which is also a lean-to, with a slate dividing wall, and another small lean-to further left. Cobbled paths run along the fronts of the buildings.
The roofs feature collar-truss construction, while the stables have cobbled floors, and the barns have slate floors with timber inset threshing floors. The pig kitchens are equipped with fireplaces and recesses for cauldrons.
