Description
The Walled Court at Cristin is a group of farm buildings enclosed by a stone rubble wall, which is raised high on the southwest side to act as a retaining wall due to the slope of the ground. This wall features seven raking buttresses and is capped with stepped square blocks. The entrance to the court is through an elliptical brick arch located in the northwest wall.
The one-storey buildings are arranged against the enclosing walls of the court and are constructed from stone rubble with slate roofs. The main range is L-shaped, extending along the northeast side and part of the southeast side. From northwest to southeast, the buildings include a barn, a cowshed, a smaller barn, a stable at the angle, and a cartshed at the end. In the west corner against the northwest wall, there are two pig-kitchens aligned with a brick ridge stack between them. Central to the southwest wall, there are two sets of lean-to pigsties.
The L-shaped range features, from left to right, a small window, a loop, a door to the barn, another door, and a door with a window. The southeast return includes a door and a brick elliptical-arched cart-entry, with a loft light in the end gable. Stable-type doors generally have slab lintels, and the windows have glazing bars over a boarded lower half. The rear of the northeast range has a gable on the left with a door, and doors leading to the rear of two barns. The pig-kitchens have a left gable-end door, two windows, and a door on the side wall. The pigsties feature low rubble stone front walls and slate dividing walls between each pair of sties. Cobbled paths run along the fronts of the buildings.
Inside, the two-bay barn has a slate floor with a wooden inset threshing floor, while other areas have cobbled floors. The roofs are supported by collar trusses.
