Description

The 'Stepped' Bridge to Britannia Park is a Grade II listed structure made of rock-faced coursed stone with freestone dressings. It spans a railway cutting, where the two sides of the bridge are at significantly different heights, requiring a stepped design. To the north, there are five segmental arches supported by battered piers. The freestone voussoirs of the arches are chamfered, and the ashlar parapet features an arcade between terminal piers that extend down as pilasters. This arcade is set on a moulded string and includes rectangular openings, while the coping is both moulded and chamfered. The parapet is splayed onto abutments at each end.
