Description
The Vicarage is a late-Georgian style house that has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring three bays. The front of the building is made of distinctive coursed blocks of unworked rubble stone, with stone lintels above the openings. The sides and rear are pebble-dashed. The slate roof includes roughcast gable stacks, and the central entrance is accessed via stone steps. It features a Tuscan doorcase, a fielded-panel door, and an overlight with thin diamond-pattern glazing bars. The outer bays have late 19th-century canted bay windows with four-pane horned sashes, and there are basement vents beneath them. The upper storey has 12-pane hornless sash windows, and three gabled roof dormers contain 8-pane hornless sash windows.
On the left gable end, there is a two-light basement window on the right side. The right gable end has two 12-pane hornless sash windows on the lower storey, with one horned window on the left and a hornless window on the right, as well as a similar hornless sash window in the upper left. The rear elevation features an added single-storey double-gabled projection made of rubble stone with yellow-brick dressings, a slate roof, and a late 20th-century blue-brick stack. The rear windows have been replaced but are in their original openings, including a tall central stair window beneath a gable and two roof dormers with 8-pane sash windows. There is also a two-light basement window on the lower right.
The house has a double-depth plan with a central stair hall. The open-well stair features turned newels and plain balusters. The dining room to the left at the rear of the hall includes a large fireplace with a stone cambered head. The basement has a flagged floor and retains original features such as slate benches and a bread oven. The three-bay roof has collar-beam trusses, which are mostly concealed by plaster.
