Description

The courtyard ranges to the west of Wern Manor, which include stables, a coachhouse, and a tower, are constructed from local rubble stone with slated roofs featuring rooflights. The two ranges form an 'L'-shaped plan centered around a clock tower that rises from the northwest corner. This two-storey tower has an ornate design topped with a swept pyramidal roof that reaches up to the clock and a louvred bellcote. The upper part of the tower is made of snecked masonry with freestone quoins, contrasting with the earlier rubble stone below. Freestone is also used for the gabled dormers on all four sides of the tower, which have ball finials and 2-light leaded windows. The clock and bellcote are made of timber, with clock faces on three sides, although the hands are missing.

The west range contains the coachhouse and stables, with a large covered loading area at the angle, featuring a gabled roof, boarded apron, and boarded doors. The well-ventilated stables on the left have paned hopper windows beside a central boarded stable door with an overlight and stone lintels. The north range includes the Turbine House and Gun Room, which later became the Estate Office, and features red brick chimney stacks that are heightened with yellow brick. Two windows flank the entrance to the Turbine House, both of which are twinned horned 4-pane sashes, with one window retaining an ornate timber blind box. The Gun Room at the right end has a tall gable with a roundel above a boarded door, flanked by 3-light diamond-leaded windows.

The south gable end of the coachhouse and stable range has unusually massive quoins, and the roof is canted forward at the apex to create a winch cover over the loft door. The rear of this range has some blocked openings, and there is an additional parallel coachhouse with a yellow-brick segmental arch. Behind the Turbine House is a low addition with similar sash and small-pane windows, and attached to the north side of the clock tower is a three-window range. Beyond the buildings is a walled garden that contains glasshouses.
