Description

Aber House is an early 19th century late Georgian house with three storeys. It is built of rough-dressed stone and has a medium-pitched slate roof. The gables are coped and kneelered, featuring plain squat end stacks, and there are three modern skylights.

The main facade, which faces southeast, is symmetrical with three bays. It has a central round-arched entrance accessed by slate steps, with a stucco entablature that includes a central projecting key. The entrance features recessed late 19th century part-glazed double doors topped by an original segmental fanlight. The windows are near-flush sash types with projecting stone cills, consisting of 12 panes on the ground and first floors and 9 panes on the second floor. To the left, there is external stepped basement access with a later deeply-recessed 20-pane iron-framed French window, and to the right, a narrow cellar light.

On the northeast side, facing the High Street, there are two late 19th or early 20th century shop windows. These large plain-glazed bays include one that is canted towards the entrance on the left and another on the right with a central entrance and flanking bays. The entrance has part-glazed double doors with plain rectangular fanlights. The upper floors maintain the same fenestration style as the main facade. At the rear, there is a tall multi-pane arched stair-light. Additionally, a single-storey extension adjoins the left side of the main facade, which is partly from the 19th century and has a prefabricated modern section at the front.

Inside, there is a well stair featuring a swept mahogany rail and plain stick-balusters. The entrance hall has contemporary reeded doorcases with six-panel doors and a simple moulded cornice.
