Description
The Walled Court at Plas Bach is a group of farm buildings dating from the 18th century, constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs and slate gable copings. The layout is rectangular, featuring a long range along the south side that includes a cart-shed, barn, cow-house, and stable, with shorter wings extending north at both the west and east ends. The courtyard is enclosed by walls that have stepped stone coping at the northeast and northwest corners, with a gabled pig-kitchen located centrally and oriented at right angles to the long north wall.
There is a brick flattened arch providing entry to the courtyard on the north wall, west of the pig-kitchen. The pig-kitchen features a door at the south end and a door and window on the west side, with the window having eight panes over slats. A central brick ridge stack is present. In the northwest corner of the yard, there is a ruinous lean-to row of three pigsties, enclosed by a wall and featuring a broad feed-chute.
The main group of buildings includes an east arm with a vent loop, a door, another loop, a door, and a window similar to that on the pig-kitchen. The roof slates have been partially replaced with asbestos sheets. The long south range has a window under the eaves on the left, a door in the center, and a window and door on the right, with the window resembling that of the pig-kitchen. The short west range has a broad brick flattened arch leading to the cart-shed, and there is a loft light in the north gable end. The outside south wall of the complex features gables at each end, each with a window and door, and an additional door to the right of center. Cobbled paths run along the front of the buildings.
To the south of the complex, there is a small field or hay-yard enclosed by stone walls that have similar stepped coping. The eastern wall continues further south along the island track, opposite the walled court of Cristin. The interiors, typical of other island farms, include cobbled floors in the stables and cow-houses, a slate floor in the barn with a wooden threshing floor, and a slate floor in the pig-kitchen.
