Description

This is a 19th-century barn with an attached cartshed-granary located at Llan Idan farm. The barn features five bays and has tall central opposed doors, with two levels of internally splayed slit vents, and four vents on either side of the door. The walls are made of coursed rubble, and there are gritstone voussoirs forming elliptical arches over the doors. The eaves have continuous quarter-round corbelling, and there is a single row of dove-holes beneath. The roof is pitched and covered with profiled asbestos sheeting, and there is an owl-hole above the door.

Attached to the north side of the barn is a two-storey, four-bay cartshed-granary. This structure has two cart bays in the right (north) gable end, one of which is now blocked. The walls are also made of coursed rubble, with segmental brick arches and slightly projecting moulding over the openings in the gable end. The roof is similarly pitched and covered with profiled asbestos. There are five ventilation slits on both lateral walls at ground level and a single door on the left (south) front. Access to the granary loft is provided by a stone staircase at the front, and there are three windows on either side of the lateral wall. The gable end features a central full-height door flanked by windows.
