Description
The pig rearing unit at Braint is a Grade II listed structure that includes a central boiling house flanked by pigsties, with one unit to the west and two units to the east. The building features rubble walls with widely slobbered mortar and slate lintels. A brick chimney is located on the north gable. The slate roof has grey ridge tiles, with every fourth tile raised for ventilation.
Access to the boiling house is through the south gable elevation, where there is a doorway on the right and a window on the left. There is a second doorway on the north gable wall, which has a boarded door. The pigsties are gabled and constructed similarly to the boiling house. The single sty to the west includes a stone yard wall with three brick and slate feeder troughs integrated into each of its two open sides. This sty also has a small boarded door or hole in the west gable that leads to a hen loft above. The range to the east of the boiling house consists of a double unit, with each sty featuring three feeder troughs set into the rear wall.
The boiling house itself is two bays in size, supported by a central collared truss made of sawn softwood and finished with limewash.
