Description
The lychgate at the west entrance to the Church of St Eilian is made of rubblestone and features a shallow cambered arch constructed from rough stone voussoirs, leading to a double gated entrance. Above the arch, there is an advanced string course that acts as a dripcourse. The central section of the entrance wall is raised above the archway, topped with flat coping, while the sides have raking coping over broad piers approximately 1.5 meters long. These piers rise to a slightly higher level than the surrounding walling into which the lychgate is set. The gates consist of alternating short and tall vertical rails that end in arrowhead finials, with a flat lockrail and head rail elevated to the center.
