Description
Ffynnon Gwenfai is a rectangular drystone structure consisting of three chambers, mostly situated below the level of the surrounding moorland and oriented east to west. The square eastern chamber is accessed by three descending steps at the eastern end and features stone seats in each corner. To the west is the rectangular well chamber, separated from the eastern chamber by a drystone wall with a narrow opening in the center. This well chamber includes stone seats on either side, set in small apsidal recesses, and contains a rectangular trough for the well, with a single step leading down into the water. Both chambers have stone flag floors.
The outer chamber at the western end is separated from the well chamber by a thick drystone wall and is accessed by six descending stone steps on either side. The well itself is divided from the inner well by a thick stone slab, which has circular grooves cut into its upper and lower edges to facilitate water flow between the inner and outer wells. At the western end, a stone slab with a hole allows water to be contained in the outer well, with outflow directed along a paved channel to the west, leading to the cliff edge.
