Description

Capel Abarim is a gable entry chapel dating from the 19th century. It features a gabled porch and is finished with pebbledash render over rubble, smooth rendered dressings, and a hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles. The entrance elevation faces east and is highlighted by a raised, stepped centerpiece with urn finials. The central gabled porch has a moulded parapet and a rusticated surround to the round-arched entrance, with rusticated quoins at the corners. Flanking the porch are round-arched sash windows with moulded architraves, which are small paned and have marginal glazing. A moulded frame above the porch displays the name of the chapel and its date. The return elevations also feature round-arched sashes, and there is a doorway towards the rear of the south elevation, set in a slightly advanced porch in the east bay; a slate plaque above the doorway reads: Abarim Er 1860, indicating the date of the earlier chapel on the site.

Inside, the main entrance leads into a central vestibule with side entrances, and the set fawr is located at the opposite end. The chapel has three ranks of raking pews, with the central rank featuring a staggered divider. The set fawr is rectangular, with the front advanced and flanking entrances, raised by two steps. The lower part of the set fawr is panelled, while the top has a moulded rail over shaped balusters and shaped newel posts at the angles. The pulpit is rectangular with an advanced central bay and side entrances, raised by three steps. It features a moulded rail on shaped balusters and newel posts with banded finials. The pulpit is also panelled, with the advanced bay having a round-headed arched panel with a moulded surround and keystone. The chapel's walls are plastered, with the lower half featuring tongue and groove panelling, and raised wooden surrounds behind the pulpit that frame shaped plaster panels, the central one having a shallow pointed arch head under an open pediment. The side entrance to the chapel also features an open pediment.
