Description
Smithy Cottage is an L-shaped building that includes a former smithy with stabling on the right and a cottage in a rear wing. It is a single-storey structure made of whitened rubble stone, topped with a hipped slate roof that has been renewed over the former stable on the right side. The smithy features a pointed doorway with a split boarded door and a small-pane overlight. There is an inscription, outlined in paint, that reads 'H LM 1811'. The doorway is flanked by two-light small-pane windows in original pointed openings. On the right, the stable has double boarded doors beneath a modern head, lower similar doors under a cambered brick head, and another similar pair of doors set back to the right end under a lintel. The left end wall of the smithy has a two-light small-pane casement window under a brick segmental head.
The two-window cottage has end stacks, with the left stack heightened and rendered, while the right side is made of whitened stone. It features a central half-glazed door and replacement windows on both the right and left sides.
