Description

Apple Tree Cottage is a two-and-a-half-storey, two-window Georgian house likely dating from 1772, as indicated by the slate tablet above the central entrance, which is inscribed 'P IA 1772'. The front is finished with a whitened pebble-dashed surface, topped by a slate roof with a skylight. An external brick stack is located to the left, and a shared roughcast stack is on the right. The entrance has a replacement half-glazed door. The windows are renewed 12-pane horned sashes with curved heads, except for the upper right-hand window, which has a flat head. A small attic window is present in the left gable end.

The rear elevation is of whitened brick and contains a small-pane stair window to the right of centre, replacing a former doorway on the landing, the outline of which remains visible. On the ground floor is a 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window to the left, with a replacement door immediately to its right. A window has been inserted on the right side, and the upper floor has two 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash windows.

The interior plan has been slightly altered, but a dog-leg Chinese Chippendale staircase is located at the rear.
