Description

This is a terrace of two-storey brick houses, likely dating from the 18th century, forming a group with numbers 1 to 11 Stanley Street. The houses have hipped slate roofs and brick stacks. Windows are characterised by dressed limestone surrounds with monolithic jambs, and round heads with keystones in the lower storey. Two-light windows feature wooden mullions, small-pane casements, and transoms in the lower storey.

No. 1 is set at right angles and faces Wexham Street, presenting a three-window front with the entrance located to the right of the centre. It has a boarded door with a round-headed overlight and a plain brick arch. The main Stanley Street elevation is composed of smaller houses arranged in pairs of three bays, each accessed through shared central arched passages that also lead to the back yards, where boarded doors are present. Some of these central passages have blocked windows in the upper storey. The left-hand window in the lower storey of the terrace is inscribed with "Stanley Street" on the arched head. No. 2 is a smaller house accessed via a passage shared with No. 1. Numbers 3 and 4 are a pair, and No. 5 is another smaller house also accessed by a passage which leads to the rear of No. 6. Numbers 6 and 7 are symmetrical three-bay houses, each with a central round-headed entrance featuring a boarded door and a plain overlight, and a blind window above the doorway. A passage on the right-hand side of No. 7 provides access to the rear and the entrance to No. 8. Numbers 9 and 10 form a smaller pair, and No. 11 is a three-bay house similar to Nos. 6 and 7. Its right-hand side wall, pebble-dashed and with two windows, includes a boarded door to the right.

The rear of the houses features small-pane horizontal-sliding sash windows.
