Description
13-23 Stanley Street and 9 Wexham Street comprise a terrace of two-storey brick houses featuring slate roofs and brick chimney stacks. The windows are adorned with dressed limestone surrounds that have monolithic jambs, and the lower storey windows have round heads with keystones. The two-light windows include wooden mullions and small-pane casements, with transoms in the lower storey. The houses are arranged in pairs of three bays, with the central bay containing a passageway accessed through a plain round brick arch. This passage leads to boarded front doors and the backyards. Above the passage, there is also a window in the central bay. On the right-hand end, the passage provides access to No 23 and to the yard behind 9 Wexham Street. The return elevation on Wexham Street has three windows and features a boarded door with a round-headed overlight set within a plain brick arch. The upper left-hand window is blocked, and a window was added in the 20th century at the right end.
The left gable end of No 13 is roughcast, while the rear of the property has small-pane horizontal-sliding sash windows. This group of buildings is part of the architectural context of 13-23 Stanley Street and 9 Wexham Street.
