Description
The Rectory, also known as Tanyffynnon, is a rectory built in a formal Georgian style. It is constructed from local stone with gritstone quoins and features a slate roof with projecting eaves and verges, as well as rendered rectangular stacks. This two-storey building has a three-bay entrance elevation facing northwest, which includes advanced gabled wings on either side of a narrow central bay that has two windows. The ground floor features a twin-arched loggia with a lean-to roof situated between the gables; this loggia has a doorway recessed in the right-hand arch, balanced by a window in the left. The windows on the front are small-paned sashes, with 12 panes on the ground floor and 9 panes above, each having slightly recessed rubblestone heads and flat arches with cambered extrados. The rear elevation, facing southeast, consists of a seven-window range that includes a central full-height canted bay with three windows; the ground floor windows are particularly tall, featuring 15 panes.
The main entrance is marked by outer and inner half-glazed double doors with margin panes; the inner doors are topped by a rectangular fanlight with splayed glazing bars. Upon entering, one finds a central square hallway that leads to a landing gallery at the first floor level. The hallway is illuminated by a domed circular lantern with an enriched drum adorned with a moulded fleur de lys frieze. The stairway features a wreathed handrail over stick balusters and an open string with arched brackets. Most of the rooms maintain simple moulded cove cornices and panelled window reveals, some of which include shutters, along with six panelled doors throughout.
