Description
Tyn Towyn is a single-storey cottage built in a two-unit plan, featuring a single-storey wing set at right angles to the rear and a lean-to addition on the eastern side. The cottage is constructed of rubble masonry on boulder foundations, with heavily mortared front (southern) and western elevations that are rendered. The roof is covered with small slates, with the lean-to addition's roof grouted, and it has a tiled ridge along with rubble gable stacks that have rendered caps over slate drip courses; the stack at the western end is larger than the one at the eastern end.
The entrance elevation faces south and includes a two-window range with a central doorway. The small four-pane windows are slightly recessed, with the left (western) window being a casement and the right (eastern) window a horned sash. The rear elevation features a similarly detailed western window, while the eastern window is a single-pane fixed light. The western wall has a single window on the rear (northern) side, which is a tall four-pane casement with a segmental brick head. The rear wing contains modern casements, and the lean-to addition has a single square-headed doorway in its southern wall.
