Description

Hawthorn House is a large town house dating from the 18th century. The main front has three bays and three storeys, with a central entrance. A kitchen has been added to the rear wing. The walls are rendered and scored to resemble ashlar, topped by a slate roof with rendered chimney stacks at each end. A fine lattice-work porch with a cornice featuring modillion details shelters the front doorway. Most of the windows are 16-pane sashes; the attic windows have 12 panes. The windows are set within strongly moulded architraves. To the left is a covered carriageway leading to a two-storey and attic section with two bays. An upper-storey window is a fixed light, off-centre, and the attic above has a single sash window. The lower storey has a 16-pane sash window on the left. The carriageway opens into a walled yard containing former stables and a two-bay cartshed, both with lofts or granaries above.
