Description
The Victoria Hotel is a symmetrically planned building dating from the 19th century. It features a three-storey main block with a three-window range and a central entrance, flanked by two-storey wings that are slightly set back on either side. The structure is built of rubble with painted limestone quoins, topped with hipped slate roofs that have wood-bracketed eaves cornices and gable end stacks on the main block. The central entrance is located within a Doric porch, leading to a round-arched doorway with a radial fanlight. The building has 12-pane sash windows throughout, set in stressed moulded architraves with bracketed sills. The central range includes limestone chimneys at either end and a later addition of a flat-roofed dormer at the front.
Inside, the entrance leads into a panelled hallway and features a staircase with shaped brackets to the cut string. The lounge includes a polished slate fireplace with an ornate cast iron hob grate.
