Description

This is a canal bridge, dating to around 1820 and engineered by Hugh Baird. It features a single segmental arch constructed from stugged ashlar, with slab copings. The keystones are numbered. The Union Canal, of which this bridge is a part, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, designated as SAM No. 4170 on 15 December 2003. The bridge is located at Philpstoun Station, on the Union Canal, and is identified as Bridge 39.
