Description
Philpstoun House is a 17th century house, dated 1676, originally built for the Dundases of Philipstoun (or Philpstoun). The main block is a traditional two-storey and garret design with projecting wings and a rear stair tower. The exterior is harled with dressed facing stones, featuring crowstepped gables and a slate roof with wooden dormers. A cartouche bearing the initials I.D./E.D. is positioned above the central first-floor window. Six sundials are set on the angles of the wings. The house was later acquired by the Hopes in the 18th century and became part of the Hopetoun Estate. The interior contains no special features.
