Description
127 High Street in Dumbarton is a building dated 1854. It is a symmetrical structure with three storeys and five bays, featuring classical details. There is a two-bay addition from the later 19th century on the west side, designed in a similar style. The ground floor has unfortunate modern shop fronts, while the upper sections are finished in painted ashlar. The original building includes an off-centre pend and has a cornice over the ground floor. Above this, there are slightly advanced, blind, central Venetian windows, and all remaining windows are 8-pane sashes set in architraves with pediments and a cill course on the first floor. The building also features a cornice and blocking course, with wall-head stacks flanking a datestone over the central bay. The roof has flat-roofed central dormers, as well as piended and canted outer dormers. There are end stacks and a slate roof, and the later wing also includes two piended and canted dormers, along with rear stair turrets.
