Description
Glencairn Tenement is a three-storey, four-bay townhouse located on High Street in Dumbarton, dated 1623 on the dormerhead, though it may include some earlier materials. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble. To the left, there is a round-arched pend with a shaped stone over the keystone. In 1924-1925, three taller round-arched openings were added to fill the remaining bays. The windows above feature 12-pane sashes with moulded reveals. There is a central rectangular plaque recess on the first floor and a continuous string course above. The second-floor windows are topped with broken pedimented dormerheads that have spike finials. The building has crow-stepped gables, rebuilt end stacks, and a slate roof. Additionally, it was extended to the rear in the 19th century.
