Description
Duchlage is a mid-19th century farmhouse with later additions, featuring a single storey and attic design arranged in a U-plan with a classical style. The building is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, accented with stugged sandstone margins and dressings, and has overhanging bracketed eaves.
On the south elevation, there is a broad gable to the outer left with a window at ground level and a smaller window above. A modern, lean-to wooden boarded porch is located in the re-entrant angle to the right, featuring a slate roof, a window at the centre, and a door on the right return. The outer right bay has a window at ground level and a gabled dormer head. The flanking gable ends of the U-plan steading are recessed, with the right gable displaying a blind round-arched window at the centre and the left gable featuring a blind round-arched window at ground level, along with a narrow ventilation slit above.
The north elevation features a piend-roofed jamb to the outer left with a window opening at the centre, which has been reduced for a smaller window, and a door on the right return. There is a broad window at the centre and a lean-to cement rendered bay to the outer right. The windows include 8-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case designs, with a modern plate glass window also present. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and includes lead flashings, corniced apex ridge stacks with octagonal cans, and a tall corniced ridge stack at the rear.
The steading comprises an east range that is a gabled L-plan structure made of rubble with stugged sandstone margins, with a lowered roof. It has two openings at the centre of the east elevation and three openings symmetrically arranged on the west elevation, which includes two doors and a window, with the lintel of the upper window positioned above the centre door. There is a two-bay jamb to the outer left.
The west range is a long gabled structure with various openings, now featuring a broad sliding garage door at the centre, flanked by doors and circular ventilation pipes located below the eaves. The roof is made of corrugated iron, and the doors are boarded.
