Description
The stables and coach house at Rossdhu date from the early 19th century and have undergone later alterations. The building features a classical screen wall that fronts a rectangular-plan coach house block. It is faced with ashlar stone, while the elevations are smooth harled with sandstone margins.
On the south (main) elevation, there is a broad Wyatt window at the center, flanked by paired Doric pilasters that support a frieze and blocking course, along with a base course. The east elevation is two stories high and has seven bays. The two outer left bays feature a gabled lean-to shelter at ground level, with a window directly under the eaves on the first floor. The five bays to the right have most windows barred at ground level, with smaller windows on the upper floor.
The west elevation also has seven bays. It includes a later door at the center, flanked by a smaller door, and a round-arched cart opening at the penultimate right, which is now partly infilled with a boarded two-leaf door. The first floor windows are symmetrically arranged, with the outer right windows being larger.
On the north (rear) elevation, there are two piend-roofed bays. The left bay has a broad door located to the left of center, and there is a broad hoist door in the center. The right bay features a narrow door to the right and a broad hoist door in the center above.
Additional features include a large classical window with blackened glass, boarded and barred windows, a graded grey slate roof with cast-iron flashings, a tall coped wallhead chimney on the west elevation, and a low corniced ridge stack with circular cans. The building is equipped with cast-iron rainwater goods.
