Description

This mid 19th century cast iron milepost is located along the A821 road near Trossachs Parish Church, between Callander and Loch Katrine. Following the opening of the nearby Trossachs Hotel in 1849 and the arrival of the railway in Callander during the 1850s, this section of the A821 became a busy route for tourists heading to Loch Katrine. The milepost is notable for its historical significance, early date, and simple yet elegant design compared to later mileposts. It is set on a pedestal with an angled two-sided face, featuring a half pyramidal cap and a blank rear section. The southeast face displays the distances to Trossachs Hotel (¼ miles) and Loch Katrine (1 ½ miles), while the southwest face indicates Callander (8 miles) and Stirling (24 miles).
