Description

The parish church, built in 1847, is a Tudor Gothic hall church with a prominent tower. It is constructed with cement render, contrasted by polished stone margins and dressings. The building has pointed-arch windows with chamfered reveals and hoodmoulds, a base course, battered ashlar angle buttresses, saw-tooth coping, and moulded skewputts. Tall, gabled pinnacles with crocketted detailing adorn the structure.

The west elevation features a three-stage entrance tower, topped by a pinnacled and battlemented parapet which projects at the centre. The ground floor of the tower is ashlar and contains a pointed arch with a panelled, two-leaf door set within a roll-moulded and chamfered surround. Above the door is a tall window, leaded with an ashlar mullion and transoms, the upper part of which has been blocked. A tripartite louvered opening, with a hoodmould, is located at the belfry level, with similarly detailed bipartites on the returns. A stepped, corbelled battlemented parapet rises to corner pinnacles. Flanking the tower are advanced porch bays with lancet windows and a blocking course. A gable, featuring corner buttresses and pinnacles, rises behind the porch bays.

The south elevation has four symmetrically disposed lancet windows, featuring Y-tracery and timber mullions, with the centre pair having a timber transom. The east elevation displays a broad gable with two symmetrically disposed, broad lancet windows. A lower vestry block is attached at ground level and includes a corner door and Y-traceried windows.

The church contains leaded and stained glass windows, and has a slate roof.

The interior has not been described in detail.

The graveyard dates to the 19th century and includes a selection of interesting grave monuments, a Celtic cross, and urn memorials. Low rubble boundary walls with semicircular coping and railings run along the side wall of the graveyard.

The church was built in 1847 to replace the earlier parish church which stands ruined to the north and is listed separately.
