Description
This is a 1915 drinking fountain situated in The Square, Tomintoul. The fountain is constructed from cast iron and has a square shape with chamfered angles. It features water spouts on each face, below which are projecting semi-circular basins. Above the basins stands a painted stone female figure bearing an urn. The fountain sits upon a square, stepped platform and is flanked by two cast-iron stools, inscribed "STEP UP BAIRNS". Dedication plaques on two sides of the fountain state that it was “Presented by Robert Grant M.D. to his native village as a memento of his boyhood, 1915”.
