Description
The building is a mid to late 19th century farmhouse known as Steading. It is a simple two-storey structure with three bays, accompanied by a three-bay single-storey wing on the left and a gabled single-storey and loft U-plan steading immediately to the north. The farmhouse is situated in a rural area, creating a distinctive group in the landscape. As of 2005, it is in a state of disrepair.
The exterior features large granite rubble blocks with remnants of harl on the house. The south elevation, which is the principal facade, has a central slated gabled entrance porch. There is also a lean-to and a single-storey projecting wing at the rear.
The steading has a symmetrical south elevation with an open court and a central coped midden wall section. The gables feature loft openings, but there is no remaining glazing. Some timber astragals are visible on the single extension, indicating the pattern of 8-pane lying pane windows, while others are boarded. The farmhouse has some 4-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and features thackstones and gable stacks. The steading has a corrugated aluminium roof and some boarded timber doors.
The interior was not fully accessible during the visit, but it includes a Y-shaped staircase leading to the upper floors.
